"A man never stands so tall as when he leans down to help a child" -Abraham Lincoln
A 6 year old kid once said to me, "I want to be like you." I told the kid… "Drink milk, eat veggies and go to bed when dad tells you to." Two months later I ran into the dad and he told me that now his son asks for veggies and he no longer has to fight with his son to go to bed, he puts himself to sleep. I truly see how blessed I am to have the platform and opportunity to make a difference, whether big or small.
No matter how tired I may be after a game, I always do my best to try to meet and talk to fans. That one small interaction can sometimes have the biggest impact on a person's life. I cannot count the number of times that parents have pulled me aside and thanked me, even when it is as simple as saying hi, or quickly taking a picture. Blessing people with my time and conversation is one of the easiest and many ways I try to give back to the community which has given me so much.
My gift could have been chess, but I feel blessed that I am able to play in the NFL and that the football arena allows me to reach and impact millions of people. I believe that the truest way to see someone's real character is when they do something when they will not get anything back in return.
